Hell Chemistry Copy/Paste

Ojo, esto me lo enviaron, pero creo que es de una altura intelectual y astucia emocional que me obliga a hacer un vil Copy/Paste. Insisto, me encantaría que fuera mío, pero no lo es.

HELL EXPLAINED BY CHEMISTRY STUDENT

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term.

The answer by one student was so ‘profound’ that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :


Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell,then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, ‘It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,’ and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct……leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting ‘Oh my God.’

El fin del Mundo Again...

Este sujeto, Harold Camping, anunció que el fin del mundo es este fin de semana.

Espero este 21 de Mayo no los pille con planes, pues se acaba el Mundo.

Y dice así: Usando numerología basada en la Biblia, ha predicho que el fin del Mundo será este 21 de Mayo (tendrá algo que ver con el discurso de Piñera?). Dios va a destruir el Mundo completamente y luego el Universo (poco nos va importar para entonces, pero si alguien tiene parientes fuera de la Tierra, es el momento de arreglar las cosas; ya saben quienes son.).

Claro que predijo lo mismo para Septiembre de 1994…

Cómo nos pilla este fin del Mundo? Qué podemos rescatar?

Veamos los Pro y Contras:

• Las deudas siguen ahí, no tendría que pagarlas +1.
• Hay harto trabajo, así que si el Mundo se acaba el, sería malo -1.
• No podría tener otro hijo/a ni darle a mi familia lo que se merece -1.
• No tendría que soportar otro reality +1.
• Ya escribí un libro +1.
• Aún no publico mi libro -1.
• No voy a alcanzar a ver la próxima generación de consolas -1.
• George Lucas no podría seguir arruinando Star Wars +1.
• Mi hijo Domingo no podría cumplir su rol en el Mundo -1.
• Yo no sería responsable del fin del Mundo esta vez +1.
• Aún no veo autos voladores -1.
• Me quedan muchos pendientes -1.

Prefiero que no se acabe, suspéndanlo por favor.

Mi Review del 3DS

Nintendo 3DS, la sensación del minuto, al menos para algunos gamers y aficionados. A continuación, mis impresiones de este juguetito de Big N.

Vamos viendo, a primera vista se ve como un Nintendo DSi, los aspectos de peso y dimensiones no las tengo claras pero son bastante parecidos. Se siente bien armado, no es un juguetito de plástico y tanto los botones como el diseño clam es bastante decente.

Dicen las fuentes entendidas (dado que Nintendo no da los specs exactos), que debería ser al menos más power que el PSP, cercano al Wii. Los tech demos que se han presentado en TGS anterior al menos lo avalarían.

Dado que existe poco material para comparar , adjunto una comparación burda de un juegazo que vendría para 3DS, originario del PS2 (símil en potencia al Wii). Se ve que habría una gran diferencia y que la maquinita tendría bastante power. Los que ya hemos probado el Super Street Fighter 4 3DS hemos comprobado que de tener la potencia, la tiene.

Ahora, pasemos a lo que viene incorporado. Trae una cámara externa (3D) e interna de 0,3MPx (bastante básica), wifi habilitado, entrada memoria SD, 128 RAM, acelerómetro y giroscopio. Más detalles en el link:

Una adición que realmente hace una diferencia, al menos para mí, es la adición de un "nub" analógico similar al que trae el PSP (lo que me hace pensar que este es el PSP+ de Nintendo). Esto, adicional a la pantalla touch que hereda del DS, abre un mundo de posibilidades para los nerds del planeta: no está a la altura del doble análogo del inminente NGP de Sony (PSP2), pero al menos da holgura para juegos 3D. Está bastante bien armado y se siente bien, esperemos que sea durable. Lo extraño es que no hayan ido por un segundo análogo, pero bien, esperemos que el touch screen o giroscopio sirva para paliar la falta en alguna medida (lección que debieron haber aprendido del PSP...).

El sonido, bastante bueno, mejor con audífonos buenos.

Y qué hay del 3D...?

Me demoré en tocar este tema y es con gran razón, al menos para mí. Soy una de las personas que no le va ni le viene este segundo apogeo de las películas 3D, creo que es un efecto bonito, como por 5 minutos. Cuando la única gracia de una película es basarse en que es 3D y lo importante (la película misma) es secundario, no sirve de nada, cero aporte. Lo mismo con los juegos 3D; si bien el 3DS evita ponerse lentes ridículos al usar tech autoestereoscópica y el efecto es realmente bonito, en la práctica es poco práctico, valga la redundancia. Por qué? Bueno, porque esta tecnología requiere que uno mire a la pantalla desde cierto ángulo y distancia (ajustable con un slider manual).

Cuando juego en mi PSP, generalmente muevo mi cabeza y la distancia de mis brazos, no los tengo fijos; ojo, no me refiero tampoco a que aleteo como loca y que salto jugando, simplemente me acomodo, a veces apreto los botones fuerte, etc. Imagínense jugando Street Fighter manteniendo el control fijo por mucho rato. Como mencioné anteriormente, al moverse este "punto ideal" se pierde y la imagen es difícil de mantenerla perfecta en 3D.

Yo juego 3DS con 3D apagado, notable...

Sobre la batería, no tengo comentarios muy auspiciosos, usando 3D (que no uso), con Wifi y brillo medio, la batería se va a piso a las 3-4 hrs. Eso no es siquiera un viaje promedio en avión. Si a esto se le agrega que para cargar full, el 3DS se demora extrañamente más de 2 horas, da para pensar sobre la portabilidad de este portatil.

Los juegos?

Creo que este es uno de los puntos más bajos y no es particular al 3DS, sino a Nintendo. Cuántos juegos decentes existen en Wii? Cuántos de ellos son publicados por Nintendo? Cuántos por Terceros? 90%/10%?

Con un 2011 desolador para los fanáticos de Wii (sale el nuevo Zelda y... nada) y el anuncio del "Wii 2" o Project Café, además de salvo Snake Eater y los Resident Evil, todos los juegos que he escuchado anunciados para la 3DS son remakes 3D (Ocarina of Time 3D, Starfox 64 3D) o extensiones naturales de la marca (Super Mario Bros, Kid Icarus, etc.). Dónde están los Monster Hunter, RPGs decentes?

Demasiado pronto? Ojalá esté equivocado.

La tienda virtual, en donde podremos comprar hits de juegos de Gameboy aún no está operativa, no puedo comentar.

En fin, el 3DS es un bonito juguete, pero, por ahora, no es más que un pisapapeles caro (algo así como lo fue en su momento el PSP). Hablemos cuando salga un Monster Hunter, un Tactics, algo que valga la pena.

O cuando salga el inevitable 3DS Lite o 3DSi o 3DS XL o la revisión que venga...

OK, now that OBL is dead, what? Terrorism is over? Peace won? What did we win?

The operation that took out the "World's greatest threat" ended up in success, albeit we all know it will be a short one. Either we'll have another act soon, or in a few months/years, but it will come. We all know that that's Humanity's specialité, killing and making wars. It's our sole distinguishing skill as a species. Of course, it's not trendy and won't go into your resumé, but that's it.

America F@ck Yeah!? I used to love America, before all this tragedy happened, but just as that nice looking high school girl you used to admire and 15 years later you ran into her, now bloated, and looking for a rebound, I just can't understand you darling, even less rally for your cause. Sure, I feel for all the lives lost at 9/11, but what about all the soldiers and civilians lives wasted in these 10 years of "war against terror"...?! What about those to come?

This "war's end" makes me think about the worst possible break-even in recent history: nobody wins, everyone loses! Damn... And I understand about redemption, closure, karma, etc. This is not that, this is revenge. And sure, the Klingons say that that is a a dish best served cold, but this one is putrid.

Mission Statement

OK, so a little background before we get into this.

I'm a 30-something Chilean internerd, went to the best school around the block, best university in Latin America, born to a wealthy family, have an awesome degree, a good position in a respectable international company and good money income, etc. I've been lucky.

This is not to show off or say that I had it easy so far - I certainly have had my fair share of pain and grief. This is for you to know that I'm an imperfect elitist jerk, that I'm aware of it and that you will not likely like everything I'll post. But this is my posting blog (my own, my preciouss...).

Anyway, I'm married to a superb woman, smart, beatiful and really/truly good person. I love her for that, among many other things. We have an eleven month old kid and he is just awesome; the pendex (that is the way we call brats here) is a smartass, cunning, funny trooper. Love him.

Besides that, I'm part of many online communities, I'm a hardcore gamer, read a lot, from comics to religion to politics to history books, avid movie fan, etc. I'm a self-righteouss, ironic and cynical good guy. Maybe lawfully neutral sometimes.

OK, so why do I want to post?
